Club de Presse Blitz: from paper to digital directory

By moving from a paper binder to a digital database, Club de presse Blitz has kept pace with new technologies since its creation in 1984, adapting to the needs of public relations professionals in the 2.0 era.


Gérard Grégoire made a name for himself in the Montreal news media in the early 80s by delivering daily press releases in person to journalists. In 1984, he realised that the names on the documents he delivered were often wrong. He came up with the idea of creating an effective, regularly updated and easy-to-use press list to help PR people and organisations find their way around. This is how the Blitz Press Club came into being, in collaboration with André Girard. Three years later, 5,000 contacts are already listed in the directory.
Initially produced in paper format, the press list grew from year to year, eventually containing 500 pages and thousands of contacts updated every six to eight weeks.


The arrival of the web did not slow Blitz's progress. On the contrary, the company experienced new growth thanks to digital platforms. The database was quickly computerised and a search tool was integrated to enable PR people to create all kinds of press lists according to their specific needs.
The directory now contains over 38,000 referenced contacts in politics, radio, television, print and digital media, and is updated weekly. The search tools are regularly updated to reflect new developments in the Canadian media industry and the specific needs of our clients.
